Mesothelioma is mostly developed in the lining surrounding the lungs or abdomen. Whenever there is a phrase “Types of Mesothelioma”, it actually means where the Mesothelioma is developed. There are 4 primary types of Mesothelioma which are identified by three types of cell called Epithelioid, Sarcomatoid, and Biphasic. Common Mesothelioma Treatment includes Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy depending on the stage of cancer.
Following are the four types of Mesothelioma:
1. Pleural Mesothelioma
It is most commonly developed mesothelioma among all four types. It is developed in the lining of the lungs and chest cavities. Asbestos causes the pleural mesothelioma, it takes decades to form mesothelioma after inhalation of Asbestos Dust. Asbestos form needle-like fibers lodges, causing irritation, chronic inflammation and sometimes genetic changes turning cells cancerous.
Symptoms of Pleural Mesothelioma include:
- Chest Pain
- Short and painful breathing
- Lumps under the skin on the chest
- A rasy cough and coughing up blood
- Sweating and Fever during Night
- Pain in the lower Back
- Fatigue and weight loss
Specialist is using New Mesothelioma Treatment like immunotherapy to treat pleural mesothelioma.
2. Peritoneal Mesothelioma.
It is caused by the tissue lining of the abdomen. The cases of peritoneal mesothelioma are 20% of all other types. It is caused due to inhaling or Swallowing of Asbestos fibers and may not appear for 20-50 years after asbestos inhalation.
Symptoms of Peritoneal Mesothelioma include:
- Abdominal Pain
- Abdominal Swelling, bloating and bowel changes.
The most effective treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma is a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. Long-term survival can be obtained through surgery. Patients who are treated with chemotherapy and surgery live more than five years.
3. Pericardial Mesothelioma
It is caused by the membrane surrounding the heart called Pericardium. It contributes to 1 percent of mesothelioma cases. It is usually not identified at initial stages and patients do not experience any symptoms of Pericardial Mesothelioma. Fluid formation around the heart makes up most of the symptoms.
Symptoms of Pericardial Mesothelioma include:
- Breathing difficulties
- A cough and murmurs
- Shortness of Breath, when lying flat
- Sweats and Fever at Night
- Irregular Heartbeat and Palpitations
4. Testicular Mesothelioma
It is caused in the membrane lining the testes. Testicular Mesothelioma accounts for less than one percent of cases as compared to all other Mesothelioma Cases. It also knew as tunica vaginalis testis.
Symptoms of Testicular Mesothelioma include:
- A buildup of fluid in the scrotum
- Pain and Swelling of the testes in men
- Abnormal Lump inside the Scrotum
These are four types of Mesothelioma. There are three types of cells that cause tumors
3. Biphasic Pleural
Pleural Mesothelioma Cells Broken Down by type contains 50 percent of Epithelioid Cells, 30 percent of Biphasic and 20% of Sarcomatoid cells. Peritoneal Mesothelioma Cells Broken Down by Type contains 1 percent of Sarcomatoid cells, 24 percent of Biphasic Cells and 75% of Epithelioid Cells. Pericardial Cells usually contains all three cells in equal percent and testicular Mesothelioma are caused by Epithelioid cells or from Biphasic Cells.
